5 Concepts Yeshua Explains from Torah

October 16, 2025

A lot of times we can get the idea that what Yeshua taught differs from the original intent of Scripture. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Let’s take a look at five concepts Yeshua explains that originated in the Old Testament.

  1. Love God, love people.

What does Yeshua say:

Matthew 22: 37-40 – “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

What does Yahweh say:

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 – “Here O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.  Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Leviticus 19:18 – “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.  I am the LORD.”

Love for God and others is the core of Torah. Yeshua restates and models it perfectly — not replacing the Law but revealing its heart.

2.    Sabbath is Restorative.

What does Yeshua say:

Mark 2:27 – And he said to them, “ The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.  So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Luke 13:10-17 – Yeshua heals on the Sabbath showing its true purpose of restoration and mercy.

What does Yahweh say:

Genesis 2:2 – And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.  So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Exodus 23:12 – Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the client, may be refreshed.

The Sabbath was never meant as bondage, but a gift of restoration and freedom. Yeshua honors its intent.

3. Its always been about the heart.

What does Yeshua say:

Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:21-28 – Anger and lust judged as murder and adultery in the heart.

Matthew 15:18 – But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.

What does Yahweh say:

Deuteronomy 10:16 – Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.

Leviticus 19:17 – You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.

1 Samuel 16:7 – For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

Deuteronomy 4:29 – But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

God always desired inner transformation, not external religion. Yeshua exposes the heart’s motives — the true source of sin and righteousness.

4. Obedience out of love.

What does Yeshua say:

John 14:15 – If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

John 15:10 – If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

What does Yahweh say:

Deuteronomy 11:1 – “Love the LORD your God and keep His requirements, decrees, laws and commands always.”

Exodus 20:6 – God shows mercy “to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”

In both covenants, love produces obedience — not from fear, but from devotion. Yeshua repeats God’s pattern exactly.

5. Eternity Starts Now.

What does Yeshua say:

John 5:24 – “Whoever hears My word and believes… has eternal life and has crossed over from death to life.”

John 17:3 – “This is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Yeshua the Messiah.”

Matthew 25: 14-30 – Parable of the Talents explains the concept of being judged based on what we have been given. What we do with what we’ve been given here on earth will determine our eternal reward.

What does Yahweh say:

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 – I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse.  Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you ay dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give them.

Proverbs 12:28 – In the way of righteousness is life, and in its path there is no death.

Eternity isn’t just future — it begins with knowing God now. Righteousness found in love through obedience to God produces life. Yeshua confirms that eternal life starts in relationship with Him.

So we can see that Yeshua came to show us how to love Yahweh through instruction, obedience and righteousness. He did not come to abolish the Scriptures but point back to the original intent of the Father. Our hearts have always mattered over routine and religion. Our love for God and people, our obedience, our sabbath rests, our eternity – all are original concepts. Yeshua perfectly showed us how to walk out our lives in accordance to Torah.
